Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort and Spa
Over the years our nannies have worked at many of the best Hotels and Resorts on the Big Island. One of my personal favorites in Kona is the Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort & Spa. It is a family destination resort with on site restaurants, a weekly luau dinner and show, a huge pool that traverses from an inner to outer area with waterfalls and a 200-foot-long waterslide, two whirlpool spas and a sandy bottomed pool for the little ones. Keauhou Shopping Center is just 5 minutes away. The complimentary Keauhou Resort Shuttle is available for rides to the center and all the way in to Historic Kailua Village. With 521 rooms on 22 acres, the oceanfront Sheraton Keauhou Bay is just small enough so you don't get lost on the property and just big enough so you can get some personal alone time by one of the pools if you need it. One of the most amazing things I have experienced there is the Manta Ray Night Dive that takes place just off the shore of the Hotel. You can stand on the resort's Crystal Blue Terrace facing the ocean and see Manta Rays swimming just offshore most evenings as they feed on plankton attracted to the lights shining on the waves. As they pass a certain section of the water their wings come up and it looks like they are waving at you. I have also seen whales and porpoises from the lanai (balcony) of the rooms. There are plenty of places to take the kids gecko hunting but you never have to leave the pool area if you don't want to. There is poolside service for both drinks and food and the Manta Ray Bar & Grill is conveniently located poolside for lunchtime dining.
